Update October 2024:
We are finally up on YouTube! Watch my rambling take here or below: (Note- The video is more of a ramble so it’s not the same video as the post below)
It’s crazy that it’s been a year since I quit my corporate job. Time flies fast and that is something I did not take into account. Don’t get me wrong, a lot has happened for me in the past year for my personal life. Sadly, I used that as an excuse for my professional life.
Out of all my projects I have probably dipped my toes into all of them but haven’t finished any of them. Let’s see where we are at…
Project 1: Clothing brand – 10%
I went hard on this project at the beginning and definitely sank the most money into it. From samples to blanks to designing. So what’s my excuse for letting the ball drop on the project I was the most excited about? It got really hard to navigate such a guarded industry. I felt like I needed to do more research and find someone to help guide me through because it was overwhelming doing it all by myself. That meant I had an excuse for myself to take a pause. Now that I’ve reflected a bit, I feel ready to jump back into this project.
Project 2: YouTube – 20%
I’m a little more generous with my progress here. Why? It’s something I can do anytime, anywhere but I just haven’t. I’m a perfectionist. Not only that but I am cautious about what I put out on the internet in general now. I feel like I was more carefree in my younger days.
I’m lucky that my streaming days led me to have a lot of the equipment I would need to do this, so that was never a problem. I figured out what programs I needed and how to do some basic editing. I have a database full of prompts and yet… nothing had been solidly made and posted. So the completion percent is so low because it’s about action and not about just being prepared for it. I just need to jump in full force to do it.
Project 3: The Blog – 80%
Why 80% if it’s up and running? Well it’s bare minimum. The layout is basic and I should be posting something probably 3-4 times a week. I like to think I succeeded because it exists but I don’t feel like that is enough.
At least I have a project within the “passing” range though!
Where do I go from here?
This is a tough one. I feel like I just need to focus again and I can run quick with my projects. At the same time my savings are down and finding a job to hold me over is looking more enticing. I don’t want to ‘cave in’ and get a job but I also feel like I took this last year for granted and should have worked harder. Is it a little bit of a punishment for myself? A bit. It’s more survival but with that said, can’t I bunker down and make a business work instead of spending time finding a job?
It’s rough guys. I think I needed this for a mindset shift — a wake-up call.
